Into the Forest...

A new concept picture has been designed and revealed by Dave Kang, which shows a small hut carved out of a tree trunk and what looks like a minifig inside. Here’s what Dave said,

What’s your favorite thing about this piece?

The colors are warm and cozy.

What’s happening in the image?

A minifig is about to enter a town in the middle of the forest. He is about to enter the big mysterious hollow tree.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?

The sky is not finished!

Mahjong Legend Akagi review.

So finally I took the time to watch Akagi after a friend recomended it to me. And seriously this is one of the best shows I have seen. So how can a show about a board game be epic and awesome?  That is what I will tell in this review.

The show starts showing how a guy named Nangou is playing a game of Mahjong against the local yakuza. Nangou is deep debth and suddenly a teenager named Akagi barges in and after waching a couple of games he plays instead of Nangou and at that moment you can say a legend was born. So the story is simply about the ice cold Akagi who is a genius playing Mahjong. There isn’t much more to say about the story. But seriously this show is one of the most epic and suspense things I’ve seen.

Even if the story is pretty simple it’s the interaction between the characters that is awesome. Akagi is one of the most ice cold guys I’ve seen and he is awesome and always cool and collected and one of the coolest character I’ve seen. I guess interaction was wrong word because often you get to hear what the characters are thinking and how they are trying to reading each other and how they will put up their strategy. And this is one of the things that makes it awesome.

Let’s talk a bit about the animation style. I’m not lying when I say that the animation style of Akagi is very very differnet from many animes out there and I was a bit skeptical at first. But after the first episode I didn’t care anymore. And actually the style fitted very vell into the show in my opinion.

The music in Akagi was also really awesome. It isn’t any weird since it’s the same guy that did the death note soundtrack. I really loved it and the music really fitted the show. The opening was really nice and chill. The second ending was better than the first in my opinion.

So what did this anime so awesome? I would say that it was the suspense. Most of the time I wasn’t thinking of will he win but how will he will? And I really loved that kind of suspense. And I think that it got that suspense from the fact that Akagi isn’t winning by just luck and believing in the game and “moral” stuff like this. Akagi wins because of his skills. It’s all that’s to it and I really loved it.

So if you haven’t watched this show yet you should do it. Even if you never played mahjong before you will still appreciate it since they tell about many of the rules when needed to. Akagi get 5/5 riichis from me.

Farmville Mania

Farmville Mania
By: Laforteza, Wilbert C.

One morning, I barged-in at the library to tend at my usual task, which is reading a newspaper. Upon entering, I noticed several students huddled on two computers at the IMS Section…hearing some saying the words: eggplant, cow, harvest and wheat. Disregarding the noise, I continued until few minutes later, while reading the Inquirer, I was bothered seeing the restless students…some noisily couch and cheer while the rest stand firmly but with all eyes on the computers. Annoyed but alacrity of knowing what’s going on, I approached the group and took a glance on the monitor then I read the word “Farmville” and saw on the background plots teeming with crops. I sighed, “Oh! It’s a farmers’ game.”
Since I’m a farmer and belongs to a family of farmers, too, I turned interested with Farmville so I got the nerve to research about it thru the net at home, one evening. Before searching, I logged in my account at Facebook then begun surfing. I was surprised to know that it’s simply imbedded at the Facebook’s applications. I’ve been maintaining my FB accounts for more than a year but it was then my firs time to open a game in it. Eager to explore Farmville though still unknown to the mechanics, I tried and experienced the ever first time in my life “virtual farming”…’twas a funny start.
When I scavenged informations and dug up the Farmville’s story, I learned that it’s a social game developed by the Zynga Company and they launched it last June 19, 2009. Since it’s launched, it rapidly gained millions of client users. I was surprised to know that today, Farmville user enormously increasing by a million per week. Wow! It is amazing that so many people patronize this virtual game. This social game is now a world’s giant online game serving several millions of users. Really, the population is huge within the Farmville community…the rapid increase is so astonishing!
There’s a cash flow in the Farmville game, there’s income on every harvest and there are bonus amounts from such visit to neighbors’ farm. I wonder if these dollar pennies can be converted or enchased into real cold cash. Hmm…that could be a good and opportunity for all who are fond of Farmville to earn real cashes. On the other hand, I could not wait that one time; the virtual money accumulated may be used to trade or purchase desired actual products. That would be an easy way to linger a market life via online transactions. It will mean a convenient way to access financial resoureces in just clicks.
Repeatedly, I played Farmville…it lures me to check the game frequently or else the crops planted may wither if they’re not harvested a lengthy time.
Now, something I learned from Farmville; just like in real farming, crops need to be tended and harvested within certain time or else they’ll wither or left unbeneficial. Endeavor, time, capital and labor are of waste if the crops are left unattended in long time or they are abandoned. Abandoning crops, fowls and livestock means loosing a farming livelihood…and losing will let you weep in misery.
Care for crops, animals as well your whole farm; Farmville players…all have the swelling amusement in this game, happy virtual farming! I hope you could be convinced to love farming in real life…farming is a dignifying occupation because you have the opportunity to procure food for everyone who’re waiting for something to devour.

Class of 2009 - Sean Tucker

The biographical information below was compiled by Alan Renga, Assistant Archivist, for the 2009 International Hall of Fame Gala. For more information on the Museum’s Library and Archives, click here.

Sean Tucker Hall of Fame Portrait

He is one of the most talented and famous aerobatic pilots the world has known Sean Tucker.  Born in Eagle Rock, California Sean earned his pilots certificate at the very young age of 17 even though he had a fear of flying.  He quickly realized the only way to conquer that fear was to attack it head on. So he took an aerobatics course…and soon was performing in air shows. Very quickly Tucker earned a reputation for being a highly gifted performer. Many of his maneuvers are original and have never been performed by another aerobatic pilot. Sean has flown in more than 425 air shows, in front of more than 80 million spectators!

Thirty years ago, Sean’s first aerobatic plane was a Pitt’s Special. Striving to push the edge more than the Pitts could deliver, Sean’s team designed the one of a kind Challenger II which produces more than 400 horsepower, weighs only 1,200 pounds, and is considered the most high-performance aerobatic aircraft in the world. Today, the Challenger II is one of the most recognizable small aircraft in the world. To endure the extreme physical demands of aerobatic display, Sean maintains a rigorous physical training schedule by working-out over 340 days per year in a routine of jogging and weight-lifting on alternating days.

Tucker has received numerous awards and recognitions celebrating his career in aviation. He has been named one of the Living Legends in Aviation, is the recipient of the Crystal Eagle Award, was an inductee at the 2001 USAF Gathering of Eagles, and was named one of the Living Legends of Flight. And in 2008 he was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame, joining such famous aviators as Jimmy Doolittle, Chuck Yeager and Bob Hoover.

Expanding on his love of flying, Tucker created the Tutima Academy of Aviation Safety, a world-class flight training institution dedicated to setting and spreading the standard for aviation safety in aerobatics and aviation at large. The Academy offers a variety of courses including stall/spin recognition and recovery training, aerobatic proficiency training, a low-level aerobatic mentorship program, and formation aerobatic flight training, which can be found no-where else in the world.

Tucker’s self-proclaimed goal is to “share the magic of flight with Team Oracle’s guests by inspiring and thrilling them. I want them to go away saying that the air show was one of the most engaging days of their lives.”

For his incredible enthusiasm for flying and his strong desire to pass this passion on to as many people as possible, the San Diego Air & Space Museum takes great pride in inducting Sean Tucker into its International Aerospace Hall of Fame.

Sega Saturn Radiant Silvergun JAPAN T-32902G

Platform:Sega Saturn

Format:NTSC Japan

Genre:Shooting

Release:23.07.1998(by Treasure)

Current Price:$220

If you like to purchase this Game please send mail

Considered to be both a milestone in shooter design and one of the toughest games in the genre, Radiant Silvergun comes courtesy of Japanese developer Treasure. Released only in Japan, Radiant Silvergun offered two modes, Arcade and Saturn mode. The former is all about intense 2D shooting action, while Saturn Mode adds a storyline to the mix and features anime-style characters and voice overs. Radiant Silvergun’s most interesting feature is that it did away with the power-up system so prevalent in 2D shooters and instead offered a choice of attacks — and combos between them. From standard lasers, to split shots, tracking fire, homing blasts, rear attacks, lock-on laser, and the Radiant Sword that can act both as shield and smart bomb, players have to choose the right attack for the right enemy to make it through.

Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story released 2010

Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 3rd Story will be released next year for the DS! Yay for skinship~ We are back at Habataki academy seven years after TMGS 1. So far only the details of three characters have been released.

The prince looks sooo cool! Very different from Hazuki or Teru~ His name is Sakurai Ruka (the name reminds me of Ruka in Koi shite vampire ~Vampire Boy~ and Sakurai-san the seiyuu). According to the news released so far:

  • He has a ‘dangerous‘ personality: he acts without thinking of the consequences (Does that made him forward then?!)
  • He does the most random and crazy things, like jumping out from the window on the second floor to just get away o_o
  • If you leave him be he wouldn’t live long, so please educate him (This IS a direct translation XD)
  • He works in a florist and his favourite food is hot cake!

The prince is definitely the type of guys who acts all tough and bad outside but is a softie inside. I always fall for this type in Otome game!

Apart from the prince, we have the sporty guy (Fujiyama Arashi) and the reliable and gentle senpai (Konno Tamao). Will update again when more information has been released! Is this on your buy list?

Jaguar Skills 2-Hour Computer Game DJ Mixtape

If you haven’t heard of superstar DJ Jaguar Skills yet, chances are he’s already heard of you and he’s standing silently behind you as you read this, katana ready to strike. Not only is this guys a DJ, he’s also a self-proclaimed ninja, never taking his mask off at live shows and never giving interviews. Mysterious.

Anyway, the guy is a rising legend in the UK, known for his huge mixtapes and wicked sense of humour. Back in the summer he performed a live two hour video game mixtape for the BBC that is a crazy mash-up of classic video game music and the best that dance, rock and hip hop has to offer. In a word – ‘Brilliant!’

Out of the two hour set, expect to hear musical cameos from Alex Kidd, Mortal Kombat, Mario Bros, Street Fighter II, Parappa the Rapper, Rally X, complete with radio skits from the Grand Theft Auto series, a guitar hero tribute section and 8-bit remixes of hit rap songs from Jay-Z, Ludacris and Kanye West.

Admittedly, this is old news for gamers in the UK, but as I was listening to this while writing my Assassin’s Creed II review (check back on Friday for the full review!) I though I’d share it with gamers coming to this blog from outside the country.

(500) Days Of Summer

Zooey, além de atuar, contribui cantando com a outra metade do She & Him uma versão de Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want, clássico do The Smiths. Aliás, a trilha sonora inteira é delicosa. Além dos já mencionados She & Him e da fofíssima Regina Spektor, temos Wolfmother, Carla Bruni, Feist, Black Lips e até Hall & Oates, com a ensolarada You Make My Dreams.

(500) Days Of Summer, Marc Webb, 2009.

(500) Dias Com Ela. Com Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Geoffrey Arend, Chloe Moretz e Matthew Gray Gubler.

NEoN Digital Arts Festival: UK Exclusive - Crackdown 2 Demonstration

‘This game is a toybox’ says Jim Cope at Dundee developer Ruffian Games. Made up of half the team that created the original Xbox 360 hit, Crackdown 2 is perhaps in the safest possible hands, playing to the strengths of what made the first title so appealing and adding in a slew of insane new toys for your Agent to play with. As Jim says: ‘This game is childish, but it’s all shits and giggles’. Well said sir.

Set a few years after the Agent released a horde of mutant freaks on to the streets of Pacific City, a three-way civil war has torn the city apart and plunged it into chaos. The civilians, mutants and agency forces are locked in an ongoing power struggle to claim the city, with your Agent stuck right in the middle. Similar to the first title, there is a day-night cycle, but this time it doesn’t exist simply for aesthetic purposes.

When night falls, the mutants come out and roam the streets, killing the few remaining civilians in their sleep and generally causing trouble for everyone. The Agent can wade through the streets tackling hundreds of freaks at once using a meaty new assault rifle or by using the all new melee system. In the example shown, the Agent rips a steel girder out of the ground and uses it like a massive club, battering freaks to bits without breaking a sweat. According to Jim, the new melee system is quite similar to Fable II’s streamlined melee commands. Ranged weapons also let you auto-target parts of the body, as demonstrated by a brutal headshot.

Another superb feature that will make co-op even more fun is armoured cars. During the day, civilians do whatever they can to survive another night with the freaks by gathering supplied and adding armour plating to vehicles. The sight of an armour-plated freight truck with a minigun turret on the back was a tantalising prospect. Just imagine one player driving and another manning the gun. Magic!

During the night, Agents can activate ‘Freak Breach’ side-missons by springing perimeter traps set up by the mutants. Once the alarm has been raised, waves of enemies will home in on your position and the aim is to survive the onslaught. No hints were given as to what the reward for completion would be, but I reckon it could be EXP bonuses. Speaking of which, agility orbs make a return for achievement fans and EXP is awarded for performing certain actions. Melee kills give you melee EXP and so on.

Perhaps the best ‘new toy’ revealed were the all-new ‘mag grenades’ that wreak havoc with the games perfectly tuned physics engine. It’s a little tricky to explain but here goes…If you stick a mag grenade on a car, then throw another on a nearby wall, you can create an elastic band effect that is caused by the electrical charge running between the two grenades. The examples shown included creating a makeshift bridge between two buildings by tethering a line of cars together and levitating them across the gap and creating a slingshot between two buildings that was used to launch a car at a group of pedestrians.

If you have ever played Spider-Man 2, this was similar to the slingshot move that Spidey can use to gain momentum. Another neat trick is that you can shoot nozzles off gas canisters to turn them into makeshift missiles. By tethering one to the ground with a mag grenade you can create swirling perimeter traps as the canister spins round and round on fire. Rather awesome.

Also impressive is the inclusion of the riotous ‘Keys to the City’ mode that is unlocked from the start in Crackdown 2. This is a bit like Halo 3’s Forge mode and it lets you spawn a large set of items into the map. Jim showed this off in superb style by spawning about 40 cas canisters, 10 cars, about a million grenades and (oddly) golf balls into a giant chimney throwing some sticky charges sown the pipe then setting the whole cocktail off. First, the gas canisters came firing out of the funnel and exploded in mid-flight like a mental fireworks display, then the cars came spewing out, closely followed by a shower of golf balls.

The last scene is a perfect example of the ethos behind Crackdown 2. In true sandbox style, the potential is here to run riot around the city and engage in some absolutely insane horseplay, something has was lost in Rockstar North’s GTA IV. Multiplayer also seems a tantalising prospect, with 16-player PvP confirmed and a hint of a 16 player PvE mode that Jim couldn’t talk about today.

Crackdown 2 is due for release in 2010, The rulebook on fun will be re-written at release. Bring it on!

2002_10_16: Genius is pain. Yeah, but what in life ISN'T, you schmuck!

There have been periods in my life where there was only one profound thought in my head that kept repeating itself over and over:

“I have been hurt almost beyond belief!”

I have gone through periods of almost unbearable agony and suffering. I suspect most people do. Nobody I know has gotten a free pass in this damn life.

But geez! I have gone through intense periods of such inner pain, it was like my soul was being permanently branded by the searing heat of it. I could literally feel my soul, my psyche, being warped out of shape by the pressure of it.

“Life is pain,” said the Buddha, and he was not fukking around. Or maybe he was. You don’t really like to think about it; about pain. Just as you don’t really feel like listening to somebody else bitching and whining about their problems, unless its done in a stylish, cathartic way, like “singing the blues”; or the pie-in-the-face suffering of comedy; or a case of somebody failing in a way that makes you feel successful by comparison (gee, I thought I had it bad, but that poor slob); or if you’re a soap opera junkie/tragedy queen who gets off on weeping and wailing for the suffering of the world….. But most other forms of suffering are dreary to think about. And usually we go out of our way to dodge it; to avoid dealing with it. Gimme a handful of codeines and a fifth of Jack Daniels. I’ll out-flank that damn suffering by hook or by crook.

But suffering has a way of exploding all over your soul in a way that demands: “DEAL WITH THIS, MUTHERFUKKER!!”

My Father was a Methodist minister and one of the perennial questions he had to deal with was the suffering of man; i.e. “Why me?” In fact, many of his parishioners came to him specifically in the hopes that he could heal their suffering or, at the least, give them a prescription from the Heavenly Doctor in the Sky.

One night when I was a kid, I remember my Dad getting a late-night phone call from one of his faithful parishioners. By the grave tone of his conversation, I could tell it was “serious.” My Dad kept repeating over and over: “Tsk! It just doesn’t make any sense! Geez!” It turned out the guy’s 18-year-old daughter had just died on the operating table while they were trying to deliver her baby. The guy kept asking my Dad that one unavoidable question:

“WHY WOULD GOD DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS?”

What can you say? “Gee, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Take two aspirins and call me in the morning….”

I know some people who get very bitter at God for interjecting the suffering bit into what otherwise was a very wonderful blueprint. “I mean, what’s the deal here, God?! I could be sitting here enjoying nectar and manna and lolling around on fields of golden grain for all of Eternity with nubile virgins with large breasts and endless supplies of Old English Malt Liquor. But no! You had to add this damn ’suffering’ thing to the mix. Mind you, its not that I’m questioning the wisdom of Your over-all plan, Oh Great Lord, and praises be to You and all the rest of it, etc., etc. But geez Louise! What’s the deal with that suffering thing? I mean, plagues, and locusts, and cancer, and painful rectal itch, and bad TV sit-coms. Talk about over-kill. What were You thinking, Big Guy? And another thing: that death thing. I could have lived without that, too”

I know some people who get so warped by the pain of life, they take the attitude: “There is no God! No God in His right mind would create a world as sick as this!” Others get so pizzed, they refuse to believe in God out of spite: “I don’t care if You are the Heavenly Boss! I ain’t getting down on my knees to You! You can’t break me. You’ll never take me alive! Um….”

The Greeks and the Romans sort of had the attitude that the gods play with mortal man for sport. The Hindus take it one step further by maintaining that God Himself is playing all the roles, that you are God, and He really isn’t doing anything to anybody but Himself.

But one thing’s for sure: It’s mostly pain and suffering that drives us to the spiritual path in the first place. “No atheists in fox-holes,” that bit. I know when I’m sailing along in a fat and happy state, the last thing I want to be bothered with is wrestling with the existential issues of Life. It’s only when I’m driven to my knees in absolute despair that I truly start asking the fundamental spiritual questions. It’s not so much that I’m looking for Heaven. It’s more a matter of: “GET ME OUT OF THIS HELL!”

And maybe that’s part of the answer too: “Why suffer?” If life is basically a game. And the game is basically Get Back to God. Suffering is the prime game rule that keeps us from veering too far off course. Suffering snaps us back to attention right quick.

Also, too, to continue with the Cosmic Sport analogy: Take basketball. Sure, you want to win the game. But you also secretly want to lose, too. I mean; imagine if you won every time. That would get boring. Sure, you could design the hoop so its 100-feet around; every time you threw the ball up you’d get it in. Yes! I’m shooting 100%! But how much fun would that be? Secretly, we want to lose half the time. It’s what makes the game work. Secretly, we WANT a game that’s difficult and full of suffering and frustration. We want to be puzzled by it all; otherwise there’s no fun with figuring out the puzzle.

Maybe this all sounds stupid, but that’s the only “meaning of suffering” that I’ve been able to come up with. And now I’m done with this column. You know what they say: “I’ve suffered for my art; now it’s YOUR turn.”

EA Sports: Pacquiao will beat Cotto | Pacquiao vencerá a Cotto

From/De: EA Sports UK

EA SPORTS FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 PREDICTS VICTORY BY UNANIMOUS DECISION FOR MANNY PACQUIAO OVER MIGUEL COTTO

Manny Pacquiao will win his highly anticipated November 14th bout against Miguel Cotto with a convincing unanimous decision, according to the official EA SPORTS™ simulation conducted using Fight Night Round 4. Now available for the Xbox 360® video game system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Fight Night Round 4 is the latest entry in the critically acclaimed boxing series from Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS).

According to the simulation, Cotto’s defensive prowess and methodical approach to attacking Pacquiao’s body kept the opening rounds extremely close. As the fight approached the middle rounds, Manny countered Cotto’s strategy with his blinding speed, keeping out of range and forcing Cotto to keep moving forward.

Forced out of his defensive strategy Cotto leaves himself open and Manny takes advantage by raining down quick combos while maintaining his range. The combos begin to take their toll on Cotto as the fight approaches Round 8, as he is bleeding and visibly slowing down. Cotto continues to attempt to pressure the body, but the damage he has taken throughout the fight slows him down so much that he can’t get close to Pacquiao. Manny, who seems as fresh as when he started the fight, sends Cotto to the mat with a weaving left hook at the end of the 10th. Despite beating the count, Cotto is never able to recover and loses the bout by unanimous decision.

Round by Round Scoring:

The simulation was conducted using Fight Night Round 4’s all-new AI (Artificial Intelligence) system. Dubbed R.E.A.L (Record, Evaluate, Adapt, Learn) AI, the system re-creates each fighter’s ring strategies in the game based on their real life counterparts. Built with adaptive logic, the system triggers fighters to change their tactics based on their success, or failure, throughout the course of a bout.

The highest rated simulation fighting game of 2009 (source: metacritic.com), Fight Night Round 4 features unique boxer styles and an all new physics based engine that creates one-of-a-kind bouts between over 45 licensed boxers, including Cotto and Pacquiao. Left 4 Dead Review

While we wait for Left 4 Dead 2 to come out I thought I’d take a look at its original, known for its creepy atmosphere and diverse zombie sounds (there’s too many to count).

His face is about to be blown off...

As soon as you start playing Left 4 Dead you realise that it’s quite repetitive but you look past that when start blowing zombies heads off. The level design is great and each time you’re placed into a different environment with different obstacles. The different levels include:

-          The Sewers

-          The Hospital

-          The Farms

-          The Offices

-          The Forest

Guns and Extras:

There are only two major problems that I could harp on for ages. There are only six guns. That’s right. Six! There’s a Pistol, Uzi, M-16, Sniper Rifle, Pump-Action Shotgun and Automatic Shotgun. If there were more than that the game would be fantastic, especially if you could customize them. The other is not being able to look down the sight of your gun. I think I say this because I play a lot of games like COD 4 and 5 I always think of it as being essential. I don’t know what you think of this. Tell me!

I find the Automatic Shotgun the best to use as it provides a one-hit-kill in most instances. The extras are pretty good. In certain areas you get to use a mini gun which shreds the zombies, killing them easily. The pipe bomb attracts all zombies to it and blows up, which makes it very useful for when a horde comes. Molotov cocktails are nothing special and the petrol and gasoline tanks are useless as you can’t carry them with a gun.

Zombies:

There isn’t a very big variety of zombies, but you don’t really notice whose head you’ve destroyed. Besides from the normal zombies, there are boomers: who vomit in your face, hunters: that pounce on you, smokers: who wrap their tongue around you, tanks: that rush at you and witches: who go crazy when you wake them. The guns make a satisfying crunch when you shoot zombies and the zombies have very varied sound effects. The game is classified as horror though you only get the occasional shock when something like a hunter jumps on you. The witches are easily the most challenging opponent because as soon as you shoot them once they rush at you and knock you down. You then have to finish it off and let your teammates revive you. But after you defeat a witch a horde of running zombies will appear.

AI:

The AI are extremely annoying. They are Louis, Bill, Zoey and Francis. They shout unnecessary things like “reloading” and “pipe bomb” which really becomes a pain. It seems like they have to explain everything they do. It’s great fun killing the AI at the start of the level and trying to make it through the level by yourself.

From left: Smoker, Boomer, Witch, Hunter, Tank

Graphics:

Left 4 Dead was made back in November last year and the graphics are not good. Everything is quite blocky and compared to other games back then the graphics are horrible. It’s a shame a game this good is let down by these graphics. It works fine on my ancient PC at home which can’t even play games like COD 4 made all the way back in 2007.

Difficulty:

I’ll make no mistake in saying this, but Left 4 Dead is easy as pie on the Normal difficulty settings. I’ve only ever died a couple of times. Winch it up to the top level and it becomes a bit of a challenge but is still easy. I reckon it’s the way the zombies don’t notice you’re there until you shoot or shine your light on them that makes it easy. It’s not challenging and they should have made a higher difficulty setting.

Controls:

The controls are simple, easy to use and remember but I still wanted a sprint button. When a tank sees you, all you want to do is run and the game won’t let you. Hopefully Left 4 Dead 2 will have a sprint button.

OVERALL

Good game with in-depth gameplay, level design and lots of zombies (wish it was the same for guns). It gets quite repetitive and you might find yourself putting it down for this reason. It will be interesting to see what standard the sequel sets.

Whalers win Port Hardy tournament!

The Whalers teams were up in Port Hardy for the weekend playing in the Port Hardy Wild Wedding tournament. The Whalers had two teams entered in the tournament with the full-time players playing under the Whalers name while the part-time players played under the Orcas name. Both team had a very successfull tournament playing and winning both their games on Friday night. The winning streak continued on Saturday for the Whalers with two more wins while the Orcas split their games with one win and one loss. After the round robin play, the Whalers and the Orcas were seeded first and second therefore lining up against each other for the final. The final game took place Sunday at noon, with farely depleted rosters on both sides due to injuries and sickness. It was a nicely and clean fought game with a lot of outstanding plays coming from both teams. The Whalers came up on top with a 3-1 victory. Congratulations to all!

Game MVPs: Tera Kasubuchi (2), Debra Lacroix, Marianna Stephens

If anybody has more details, please let me know. Working of my memory which is still a bit foggy…

Power Rankings: The October List

  1. Boston – They are not only beating their opponents but really giving them something to think about.
  2. Phoenix – what a surprise… I will put my foot in mouth…they are really coming. They started with weak teams…but that win over the first team…impressed me. Nash has been showing alot of team leader ship, so i believe that this is the real Phoenix.
  3. Denver – Unlike phoenix am not really surprised…and they only lost to the number 4 team on this ranking.
  4. Miami – another foot in my mouth, they really are showing up so far.
  5. Orlando – Bad offense in the loss to Detroit but otherwise…they are still good.
  6. Lakers – For some reason I should feel bad putting them this low even though they don’t have their big men, but hey, am more impressed with other teams.
  7. Houston – Well here is one Houston without a problem…with losses to Portland and Lakers…without Yao…they will be fine
  8. Dallas – I guess Marion didn’t destroy the chemistry…good job.
  9. Atlanta – I thought Jamal Crawford would be a great pick up for Atlanta and guess what…I was right.
  10. Portland – Portland has to show more than a 3-3 record because, they have been an upcoming team for like 20 years now…but on the bright side…their loss are close losses. >5 points If I am right.
  11. Chicago – I know it’s the beginning of the season but I still stand by the fact I said if they ride their run in playoffs they would be good.
  12. San Antonio – I am a bit biased on this one…they haven’t been playing the best, but not bad either.
  13. Clevland – I am kinda disappointed, am sure you are to… but it’s a work in progress, shaq and lebron needs some balance and shaq and ilgasqus shouldn’t play together.
  14. Utah – another guilty position…they had a hard start…but it’s no excuse…beat the best to beat the best.
  15. Charlotte – they are without a key player diaw.. but they are still holding there own.
  16. Toronto – they beat clevland and they thought they were the shit…then lost to Memphis…ouch!
  17. New Orleans – as my second favorite team, I am saddened that they started kind of horribly…

I don’t really want to rank the other teams… I think it’s too early to rank them because they are all bad except one. That is why I am ranking this last team 20th…No guys, not the knicks…it’s their cross-town rivals the NETS.

20. Nets – Two words “no wins”

You can't go home, but you can go forward

I was browsing this great post by zed at The Spearhead (go read it if you haven’t already) when I came across this equally awesome comment from finsalscollons. He’s a bit too much on the extreme side, but his overall thrust is powerful:

What men want from women? Irrelevant. Any society in history has been the answer to the question “what women want from men”. Men are programmed to please women and not the other way around, the same way mothers are programmed to please children and not the other way around. It is only evolution in practice. Women control men, always have, always will.

DNA studies showed that aboout 80% of women of yore managed to reproduce as opposed to 40% of men. Women have always been hypergamous and the few millenia of monogamous marriage have not changed their basic nature. In order to tame the hypergamous female sexuality, massive cultural artifacts have been required. It has been required the brainwashing of women (religion, “be a good girl”). It has also been required an universal social stigma against hypergamous behaviour (illegitimate children being labelled as “bastards”, promiscuous female behaviour being labelled as “slut”, stigma against single moms). It has been required that women were not able to economically support themselves, in order to force them to forfeit the excitement of an alpha cad in favor of a more stable beta provider, in order to make ordinary men attractive for women.

On the other hand, men were pressured into marriage in an early age where their hormones were high and were willing to trade a life of economic support for a bit of sex. Men were brainwashed to think marriage was the only honorable option. The fact that sex was taboo was a way for these men not to know that sex dries up in marriage so they entered marriage thinking they have secured a steady supply of sex (I think Erasmus told that “men enter marriage dreaming of white sheets”). Everybody thought that the neighbor was having more sex than himself (see “How to Make Love to the Same Person for the Rest of Your Life”)

All this cultural brainwashing was to make women want a beta provider. The answer in the good old days to the question “what women want from men?” was a “good husband and father”. But this was not the true nature of women, only result of massive brainwashing for millenia.

All these cultural artifacts have been dismantled the past few decades and now the answer to the question “what women want from men?” is “an alpha if this is possible, if it is not, then a share of an alpha”. This is the basic female nature: hypergamous and has an evolutive explanation, as all of you know.

So when women whine about not finding men and about men being afraid of commitment, many MRAs take a perverse pleasure saying “they are reaping the consequence of their behavior”, “let them rot”, etc. I myself have been victim of this schadenfreude.

What many men are not aware of is that women whining about the lack of commitment are not whining about the lack of commitment from us, but about the lack of commitment from Mr. Alpha. When people are in their twenties and thirties, there are more men than women, so every woman could have a husband (if she lowers her unrealistic standards). But they prefer to be with an alpha who is pumping and dumping her than with a beta husband.

So all this fantasies about women rotting and discovering that their refusal of men have taken them to a single life and then abandoning the gender war and becoming traditional women are only fantasies. Women are in the exact point they want to be. They always have, they always will, because biology has given an enormous amount of power to the female of every species. Of course, women whining about everything (it’s their unconscious way to make other people work for them to help their offspring), but they don’t prefer being married to the current state of affairs and they don’t want to go back to the fifties (as opposed to the idealization of the fifties, with an alpha in any household).

What are the solutions for men then? On a collective level, the solution is the inevitable overcoming of matriarchal Western society by patriarchal societies. Every time a society becomes matriarchal, it is overcome by patriarchal societies, which are more efficient in reproduction. This happened with ancient Rome, with Sparta, with Babilonia (read “Sex and culture”). Europe will be Islamic in one century. I don’t know how things will be in USA but the future is patriarchal (right-wing, Latino, you name it, but patriarchal).

Resurrecting the patriarchal nature of Western society is futile now. Once the stigma against hypergamous nature is gone, it is impossible to resurrect it because it would take a conscious decision of the vast majority of the elite to “brainwash” the masses. This is not going to happen. Brainwashing is imposed by the culture but not choosen. Furthermore, the elite has interest in the current state of affairs and most elite males are alpha and having the time of their life with all these informal harems.

On a personal level, there are three solutions from men. Learning Game and pumping and dumping women (”the PUA way”), leaving women alone and find meaning in other pursuits (”the MGTOW way”) and expatting. I have expatted and I am happy of having done so. I have lived in Central America for ten years.

Don’t be fooled about all these siren songs about non-Western women being better than Western women. The basic instincts are exactly the same and non-Western women also look for alphas. They also prefer to be in an alpha harem than to be in a beta marriage. Believe me: I have know them for ten years. Women are women everywhere and their hypergamous nature is biological not cultural. The difference is:

(a) I was a beta in America but I am an alpha here and I can choose between a harem and/or a traditional wife.
(b) Laws are not that stacked against men and many women are still brainwashed into being a “good girl” (this is rapidly disappearing because of Western influence). So non-Western women are sweeter, more traditional and behave better than Western women. But, in the core, all women have the same nature and the faster men understand that the less pain they will have when they see their illusions being broken by a woman.

Ngmoco's Eliminate and Touch Pets Dogs Come to the App Store

Ngmoco has been talking up its new offerings for a while now, including the visually stunning first-person shooter Eliminate, and the virtual pet Touch Pets series of apps. Both of these are now available, free of charge, on the App Store, as of yesterday.

Even though the apps are indeed free to download and install on your device, it should be noted that both of these apps represent the latest attempts to capitalize on Apple’s in-app purchasing system, in perhaps some of the most diabolical ways yet. ngmoco has recently used in-app purchasing to sell level packs for Rolando 2, which can now be downloaded for free with Chapter 1 included.

Eliminate (Free, iTunes Link)

Space marines, jumping, shooting, glowy surrounding, what more could you ask for? Eliminate is the first fully functional, original IP (not that we’re saying it isn’t derivative, mind you) first-person shooters to hit the iPhone platform, and it’s been highly anticipated as a result. It features global matchmaking for multiplayer combat over both 3G and Wi-Fi networks. Sorry, no EDGE, but it probably couldn’t handle the action anyway.

There’s also Plus+ network integration so you can track your stats and invite your friends and contacts to go toe-to-toe in deathmatches, and compare stats on the leader board. And the game includes a leveling and credit for weapon and armor upgrades and customization. Sounds pretty good, right? Now the bad news.

Eliminate is free to play, but it definitely gives you an advantage to pay. As the cleverly designed opening sequence relates, you are equipped with a set amount of energy in Eliminate, and when said energy runs out, you no longer earn credits for kills. Energy refills over time, or you can simply buy more using the in-app purchasing system. Credits allow you to upgrade weapons and armor.

You start with 30 power cells of energy. Based on my trials, that will probably last you about 10 to 15 minutes of play, if that, though I’m not sure of the actual conversion rate. Once you expend any points, a countdown clock starts until you charge again. The clock lasts around 240 minutes, so you are recharged every four hours, basically. You can buy additional power cells in blocks of 20, 280, and 975 for 99 cents, $9.99 and $29.99 respectively if you’re not the patient type.

The game is fun, and works surprisingly well given the touch controls you’re stuck with on an iPhone or iPod touch, and you can practice against bots or play without earning credits for free any time you want. All of which means that ngmoco is being pretty fair with its use of in-app purchasing this time around. Basically, you pay to progress, but the game is still enjoyable by all without that aspect. It’s a nice blend, and one that I predict will be hugely successful once Eliminate hits wide release.

Touch Pets Dogs (Free, iTunes Link)

I admit to once having owned a tamagotchi. Or if not owned, at least permanently on loan from my sister. The problem, of course, was that they always proved more of a nuisance than anything else. All of the demands of a real pet, and none of the benefits, like companionship or snuggle-ability.

Touch Pets Dogs follows in the footsteps of Nintendogs and other pet simulators before it. You pick out a puppy, name it, and then begin taking care of, playing with, and training it. It has a Sims-like interface for checking on your dog’s skills and happiness level, and even their Job status, which is a unique feature introduced by the ngmoco sim. You can train your dog to follow a career path, which makes it even more like The Sims.

There’s actually a lot to do in Touch Pet Dogs, and you gain levels as a dog owner in different areas, just like your dog can gain skills and job levels. It’s much richer than any other pet sim I’ve played, and it managed to keep my interest for more than one play-through, which is a record I think.

The in-app purchasing component to Touch Pets is fairly devious, though. You have to pay for food, which seems extremely cruel, since it’s such a basic necessity for your dog’s well-being. Luckily, your food automatically refills to a maximum of two bowls, and does so relatively quickly, so you can still play without having to cough up micropayments, but it will be harder to keep your dog hale and hearty. You can also buy more Puppy Bucks by converting food that you buy via iTunes.

The Future of iPhone Gaming?

Both of these new games from ngmoco show different types of attempts at capitalizing on the iPhone’s in-app purchasing system. It’s a thorny issue to navigate, since on the one hand, you could stand to make a lot more money than by selling apps in a more traditional manner, but on the other, you could inspire the rancor of your customers if you appear to be using the system unfairly. In my opinion, ngmoco’s done a good job of treading that thin line thus far, and it looks like they’re committed to making changes to make sure they strike the right balance.

Fuck GAME.

1 week and 4 days ago, I got my grubby little mitts on Smackdown Vs Raw 2010, and seriously, I’m enjoying the hell out of this game, even more than I have enjoyed the previous 2 editions of it.  Really, the community creations feature despite it’s two major flaws, is a great addition to the franchise.

But I’ll tell you this, the time I had actually buying the game was a nightmare. A real nightmare.  For the past 3 and a half weeks, I’ve been 20 years old. Keep this in mind, as you read on.

I walk into GAME, one of the big two game shops in the UK, a place that I have bought countless games from, and never had an issue. I pre-ordered Smackdown Vs Raw 2010 about a month before hand so I could secure my Stone Cold Steve Austin exclusive DLC.

Unfortunately I lost he pre-order slip, but surely they’d have the pre-order on the system with my Reward Card account details… My second fail-safe didn’t even come in, which was supposed to be a text from GAME telling me that my pre-order was ready to be picked up.

Anyway, so this idiot behind the counter goes to the back and brings out my game, and I’m all ready to pay for it when she asks the question that I’ve never been asked before in my life.

“Have you got an I.D.?”

My first instinct is “are you fucking serious?”, I’m 20 years old, and I’m being asked for I.D. to buy a 15 rated game! Surely there’s no logic behind this! It’d be understandable if I was trying to purchase Grand Theft Auto or something like that, but I’m not! This dumbass must have thought I was 14!

This moron must have something wrong with her, because quite simply I don’t look 14, and I haven’t been 14 in 6 years! The only reason you ask for I.D. is if you are suspicious of the age of the person purchasing it.

Anyway, the only way I could have gotten the game without I.D. (I don’t actually have any) is to drag my mother from the car into the store. And when I did this, this bitch treated us both like shit! Seriously bad service.

Even with my mother there, I tried to hand over the cash to pay for my soon to be brand new game. She turns around and says “I can’t take that from you.”.

What the fuck? So now my money isn’t good enough? What a mindfuck! So I hand the cash to my mother to hand to the ignorant buffoon and my mom has to bail cuz this store doesn’t have adequate air conditioning.

The cretin pops the game into the bag and hands it to me, and is about to give me my change until she changes her mind and says “I can’t give this to you. I’m sure your mom will understand.”

Oh really? I wonder if she’ll ever understand the finer nuances of selling games, cuz I’m never going to their store again. So after technically having my mother buy my game, I pop into another shop to buy a few Christmas presents before I blow the rest of my money on random shit I don’t need.

I pick up an Al Murray comedy DVD (18 rated) and a Buffy DVD (15 Rated) and pay for them upfront, without a call for my I.D.

Seriously, fucked up sales pitches.

Oh and I eventually got the text… About 30 minutes after I left the store, and my game didn’t have the DLC I pretty much wasted £15 on (I could have gotten the game at ASDA for £25).

Fuck you GAME.

Grand Theft Auto

(by Rockstar)

Seri-serinya: GTA, GTA II, GTA III, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City Stories, GTA: Liberty City Stories, GTA IV

9.

Metroid

(by Nintendo)

Seri-serinya: Metroid, Metroid 2: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid: The Other M

Kita nantikan saja.

8.

Command & Conquer

(by Electronic Arts.)

Seri-serinya: Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, Command & Conquer: Generals, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.

7.

Tekken

(by Namco)

Seri-serinya: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken: Dark Ressurection, Tekken 6

Pokemon

(by Game Freak)

Seri-seri utamanya: Pokemon Red & Blue, Pokemon Gold & Silver, Pokemon Crystal, Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire, Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver,

Seri-seri spin-offnya: Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium 2, Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon TCG, Pokemon Puzzle Challengge, Pokemon Colloseum, Pokemon XD – Gale of Darkness, Pokemon Rangers, Pokemon Rangers: Shadows of Almia, Pokemon Mistery Dungeon: Red & Blue Rescue Team, Pokemon Mistery Dungeon: Explorers Time & Darkness, Pokemon Mistery dungeon:  Explorers of Sky, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire Box, Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Trozei!

Zelda

(by Nintendo)

Seri-serinya: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure, The Legend of Zelda, Four Swords, The Legends of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

2.

Final Fantasy

(by SquareEnix)

Seri-serinya utamanya: Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantay IX, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XI

Seri spin-off: Final Fantasy: Mystic Adventure, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus, Chocobo Mistery Dunegon, Dissidia

1.

Super Mario

(by Nintendo)

Seri-seri utamanya: Mario Bros.,Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars!, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshines, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64 DS, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2

Genre lain: Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario RPG, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Meele, Mario Strikers, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Mario vs Donkey Kong: March of the Minish, Luigi Mansion, Super Princess Peachm, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, dll
